Today’s Scary-Bad Alert Level is RED!
May 30, 2007

This past week the Pentagon declassified some materials they found in an Iraqi ‘safe house.’ Some of what they found included instructions and crude drawings for carrying out torture. Here’s a link to the Smoking Gun which carries more of these pictures.

Andrew Sullivan posted a really interesting observation about language and torture on his blog [...]

The Apocalypse is being Televised
May 24, 2007

I quickly perused the Television rosters today and noticed that each of the major networks have a show that is either literally or symbolically about the end of the world:
ABC: Lost           NBC: Heroes
CBS: Jericho (Just Cancelled)      FOX: 24
I guess the modern network  must have A Comedy, A Medical Dramedy, A Crime/Detective DocuDrama, and Apocalptainment. The [...]

’08 Presidential Hopeful and New Mexico Governor, Bill Richardson, spearheaded the development of the first international commercial Spaceport with the help of the crazy Virgin Chairman Richard Branson. He created the company Virgin Galactic within the Virgin Group to create a tourist spaceline. Construction has begun on the Spaceport and will be completed in 2009-2010. [...]

Keep the Pork in Politics –VOTE HAM!
May 21, 2007

This is a campaign I’ll be following very closely in the next election cycle. Ham is up against the 39 year incumbent Paul Ebert. Ham’s website claims:
“Paul Ebert has served as Prince William Commonwealth Attorney since 1968 and is running for an eleventh term at what he calls “an enjoyable vocation”. Some of his notable accomplishments include:

Successful prosecution of [...]

Today’s Scary-Bad Alert Level is Yellow
May 21, 2007

Today’s Scary-Bad Image of the day.

“Mistakes were made, but I think it was the right decision.” (W. Post ) I wish I could perform like Alberto and keep my job. The more I think about it though, perhaps he is the perfect frontman for American Justice.

Suicidal Senator From Wyoming: Lester C. Hunt
May 18, 2007

During the Lavender Scare of the 1950s the popular Democratic Senator and McCarthy opponent, Lester Hunt, was given an ultimatum from the GOP: Stop your re-election campaign or we will destroy you. You see, Hunt’s son had recently been arrested and fined for propositioning a Washington DC police officer with sex. The Congress was [...]

Great Work #2: The Grand Canyon Skywalk
May 18, 2007

“Just like an eagle can fly into the Grand Canyon, my vision was for the visitors to walk the path of the eagle, and become surrounded by the Grand Canyon…My dream was to find a balance between form, function and nature.” –David Jin, Hualapai Tribe

With this great work the Hualapai Tribe are acting in the [...]

Meet Pam Bennett. She’s running for city council in Aurora, CO.  She’s quite qualified and even has military experience from back when she used to be a man. She wrote about her campaign for Newsweek.

End Times Online
May 17, 2007

Here are links to some pretty brilliant digital comics about the End of the World. Shooting War  has received a ton of press and lives up to the hype. It starts off 10 years in the future in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and follows a guerrilla reporter into future Iraq. Crazy stuff.

After the Deluge is a non-fictional [...]

Great Work #1: The Qingzang Railway – The Train to Tibet -
May 16, 2007

This past fall China completed a spectacular Great Work: The Railway to Tibet. This incredible feat spans 2,525 Miles (connecting Xining, Qinghai Provence to Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region). The real feat here is the span from Golmud, Qinghai to Lhasa,  710 miles with 80% of the tracks above 13,000 ft (2.5 miles)!  About half of the [...]
